Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania celebrated in Oslo

On February 13, Embassy of Lithuania to Norway hosted a concert at the Oslo Concert Hall to celebrate the Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Jonas Paslauskas expressed his deepest gratitude to people of Norway and other countries for their support of Lithuania on its way to freedom.

More than two hundred attendees from the Norwegian state institutions, businesses and Oslo diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of local Lithuanian community celebrated the Centennial while listening to the performance of young and talented singers from Jazz Island band. This Vilnius based polyphonic group has won numerous awards both in Lithuania and abroad for its a cappella singing in a variety of styles, ranging from folk to classical music, to jazz and modern pop.

The Act of Independence of Lithuania was signed by the Council of Lithuania on February 16, 1918, proclaiming the restoration of an independent State of Lithuania, governed by democratic principles, with Vilnius as its capital.
